COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in History (Honours) at Trent University is a 20.0-credit program designed to provide students with an advanced and comprehensive understanding of historical inquiry, research, and interpretation across different time periods and regions. The program develops strong skills in critical thinking, academic writing, and evidence-based analysis by engaging students in both foundational and specialized historical study. Students are required to complete 10.0 History (HIST) credits, beginning with a 1000-level introductory course that builds essential knowledge of historical methods and approaches. They then progress into more advanced study, including 4.0 credits at the 2000 level or higher, 3.0 credits at the 3000 level or beyond, and 2.0 credits at the 4000 level, allowing for deep specialization and engagement with complex historical topics and research. The program also offers flexibility through cross-listed courses, allowing up to 1.0 credit from Ancient Greek & Roman Studies (AGRS 2520H, 3100H, or 3140H) to count toward History requirements, along with other eligible AGRS courses. This interdisciplinary option helps students connect classical civilizations with broader historical narratives. In addition to major requirements, students must complete university-wide degree requirements, including an Approved Indigenous Course credit, ensuring a well-rounded education that prepares graduates for careers or further academic study in history and related fields.
