COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours program in Gender & Social Justice at Trent University is a 20.0-credit degree that offers an in-depth, interdisciplinary exploration of gender, power, and social inequality. Students complete 10.0 credits in Gender & Social Justice (GESO), beginning with core courses such as GESO 1001H, 1002H, 2141H, 3021H, and the capstone research course GESO 4995Y, which allows students to conduct independent, advanced research on a topic of their choice. In addition to these required courses, students complete 7.0 GESO credits from a wide selection of upper-year courses, ensuring exposure to diverse topics such as feminist theory, social movements, identity, and systems of oppression. At least 2.0 of these credits must come from specified advanced-level courses, providing depth and specialization in key subject areas. The program also limits the number of reading courses that can count toward the degree to maintain academic rigor and balance. Through this structure, students develop strong analytical, research, and communication skills while engaging critically with contemporary social justice issues. Small class sizes and faculty mentorship enhance the learning experience, encouraging discussion and collaboration. In addition to major requirements, students must fulfill overall university degree requirements, including completion of an Indigenous course credit, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive education.
