COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Studies is a 20.0-credit Honours program that allows students to explore culture through interdisciplinary study and creative practice. The program is structured around required CUST credits, including foundational 1000-level courses, advanced 2000-level and above courses, and 4000-level capstone study, with additional flexibility depending on whether students choose the single-major or joint-major pathway. Students in the single-major Honours stream complete 9.0 CUST credits in total, while joint-major students complete 7.0 CUST credits, alongside university-wide graduation requirements such as the Indigenous course requirement. The program is organized into four main areas of concentration: Integrated Arts, Literature & Narrative, Film & Media, and Culture & Theory. These streams allow students to study a wide range of cultural forms, including visual art, theatre, literature, film, television, digital media, and social theory. Learners also examine how culture interacts with politics, identity, technology, and society while gaining both analytical and creative skills. With permission, students may also count up to 1.0 credit from selected English Literature courses toward their degree, providing additional flexibility. Overall, the program emphasizes both critical understanding and creative engagement, preparing students for careers in media, arts, education, communications, and cultural research, as well as for further academic study in humanities and social sciences.
