COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Honours program in Artificial Intelligence at Trent University is a 20-credit single-major degree that integrates artificial intelligence, computer science, and philosophy to develop both technical and ethical understanding of AI systems. Students complete 10.0 core program credits across multiple disciplines. These include 3.0 AIST credits from courses such as AIST 1000H, 1400H, 3004H, 3270H, 3550H, and 4270H, which cover foundational and advanced artificial intelligence concepts. They also complete 2.5 COIS credits from courses including COIS 1020H, 1620H, 2240H, 3510H, and 3560H, focusing on computing, programming, and information systems. The program places strong emphasis on philosophy, requiring 1.5 PHIL credits from PHIL 2410H, 2270H, and 3370H, along with an additional 1.0 credit from introductory philosophy courses such as PHIL 1000H, 1100H, or 1200H. Students must also complete 0.5 credit from PHIL 3320H or PHIL-AIST 3410H, and another 0.5 credit from advanced philosophy courses like PHIL 4540H or 4710H. In addition, 1.0 elective credit is required from courses such as AIST 3653H, COIS 3030H, or related interdisciplinary options. Alongside these requirements, students must meet university-wide degree conditions, including completing 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List, ensuring a broad and socially responsible academic foundation.
