COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Policing and Community Well-Being (General) at Trent University is a 15.0-credit program designed to prepare students for careers in policing, public safety, and community-based social services. The program emphasizes understanding the relationship between law enforcement systems and the communities they serve, with a strong focus on social responsibility, communication, and community engagement. Students complete 4.5 credits in Policing and Community Well-Being (PLCW), including courses such as PLCW 1001H, 1003H, 2002H, 2005H, 2010H, 2100H, 3002H, 3003H, and 3007H, along with an additional PLCW credit at the 2000 level or higher to deepen applied and theoretical understanding. The curriculum also includes foundational social science training through SOCI 1001H and 1002H, which introduce key sociological theories and perspectives relevant to crime, society, and inequality. Students gain exposure to forensic concepts through FRSC 1100H, supporting their understanding of evidence and investigative processes. The program encourages students to include electives such as SOCI 2430H, 2610H, or 2615H to further enhance their knowledge of social systems and community dynamics. In addition to program requirements, students must complete university-wide degree requirements, including 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List. Overall, the program equips graduates with analytical, interpersonal, and leadership skills for careers in policing, corrections, and community support services.
