COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in History (General) at Trent University is a 15.0-credit program that offers students a flexible and in-depth exploration of historical events, ideas, and societies across different time periods and regions. The program is designed to build strong research, analytical, and communication skills through the study of political, social, cultural, and intellectual history. Students complete 6.0 History (HIST) credits, beginning with a foundational 1000-level course that introduces key historical methods and themes. They then progress to more advanced coursework, including 3.0 credits at the 2000 level or higher and 2.0 credits at the 3000 level or beyond, allowing for deeper specialization in chosen areas of interest. The program encourages academic flexibility, enabling students to tailor their studies around specific themes or periods in history. Additionally, students may count certain Ancient Greek & Roman Studies courses, such as AGRS 2520H, 3100H, or 3140H, as History credits, with many other cross-listed courses also eligible. This interdisciplinary approach enriches students’ understanding of the ancient world and its influence on later societies. In addition to major requirements, students must fulfill overall university degree requirements, including completion of an Indigenous course credit, ensuring a well-rounded and socially informed academic experience that prepares graduates for diverse career paths or further study.
