COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Trent University is a 15.0-credit General program that introduces students to the study of how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions under conditions of scarcity. The program builds a strong foundation in economic theory and analytical thinking through 6.0 required ECON credits, including core courses such as ECON 1010H, ECON 1020H, ECON 1250H, ECON 2000H, ECON 2010H, and ECON 2200H. These courses cover essential topics in microeconomics and macroeconomics, helping students understand market behavior, economic systems, and policy impacts. Students also complete an additional 3.0 ECON credits to broaden and deepen their understanding of specialized economic areas. Certain intermediate courses, including ECON 2000H, ECON 2010H, and ECON 2610H, are recognized as equivalent to 3000-level credits for the purpose of meeting the university requirement of at least 4.0 credits at the 3000 or 4000 level in the program. This allows students flexibility while ensuring sufficient academic depth. In addition to program-specific requirements, students must complete university-wide graduation requirements, including Indigenous studies coursework. Overall, the program develops strong critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and analytical skills, preparing graduates for careers in business, government, finance, public policy, and further academic study in economics or related social sciences.
