ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Trent University is a public liberal arts university located in Peterborough, Ontario, with a satellite campus in Oshawa, Ontario. It was founded in 1964 and is known for its Oxbridge college system, small class sizes, and natural reserves. The university offers a few graduate-level programs and is home to more than 13,000 undergraduate students and over 1,200 graduate students. The university has been recognized for its community-driven establishment and its commitment to providing access to education. Trent’s Symons campus is situated on the Otonabee River, while the Durham GTA campus serves the Regional Municipality of Durham. The university’s roots trace back to a community campaign in 1957, which led to the establishment of the institution under the Trent University Act in 1962–1963. Trent is also known for its focus on Native Studies and its long-standing relationship with the local community, including a hydroelectric power plant donated by Canadian General Electric that continues to generate electricity for the university.
