COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sound Design program at Trebas Institute Quebec Inc. is a comprehensive, hands-on training course spread over three terms, designed to prepare students for careers in audio production across multiple industries. In Term 1, students are introduced to the core principles of audio theory, understanding how sound behaves within signal paths, while also learning music theory and critical listening skills to better interpret and manipulate sound. They gain practical experience using MIDI software and professional studio recording techniques with real musicians. Term 2 builds on this foundation by introducing various sound design methods including digital sampling and differential synthesis. Students explore the use of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools, and develop skills in audio post-production for syncing music, dialogue, and effects to video, as well as sound creation for DJ and live performance environments. In Term 3, students dive into advanced sound creation techniques using granular, spectral, additive, and other synthesis methods. They also study sound design for video games, focusing on creating interactive audio that responds to gameplay, and learn about the structure of the audio industry. The final term also includes training in cutting-edge music production software, equipping graduates with the tools and knowledge to succeed in roles like sound mixer, Foley artist, or audio producer.
