COURSE CURRICULUM

This Master of Health Science program offers diverse learning opportunities designed to equip students with advanced skills and knowledge in nutrition communication that are unique to a graduate education. The program begins with two terms of classroom learning, where students explore topics such as nutritional epidemiology, nutrition and health behaviour, food policy, knowledge translation, and nutrition communication strategies. Throughout these courses, students develop critical thinking skills necessary to interpret and translate scientific evidence for various purposes and media formats. In addition, they create professional development plans, explore career development strategies, and engage with practicing dietitians from a broad range of professional settings.After the classroom phase, students proceed to complete either the Accredited Practicum or the Major Research Paper/Project (MRP) component. Practicum students gain hands-on experience through practice rotations designed to help them meet the competencies required for entry-level dietetic practice. This practical experience supports their transition into diverse professional roles. MRP students, on the other hand, have the opportunity to direct their own learning by pursuing a specific research interest. This option allows them to contribute original evidence to the field of nutrition communication.Graduates of the program will have developed the ability to critically interpret and synthesize scientific research, forming the foundation for evidence-based communication and practice. They will be skilled in creating, delivering, and evaluating multi-component knowledge translation products and communication campaigns across various channels such as the internet, print, social media, presentations, and scholarly writing. The program emphasizes creating inclusive and accessible communications tailored to the needs of diverse audiences. Additionally, students will understand the role of institutional and government policies in shaping current food and nutrition issues, preparing them to be effective, informed leaders in the field.
