COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Child and Youth Care program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to deepen students' understanding of theory, practice, research, and leadership in the field. In the first semester, students begin with foundational courses such as Child and Youth Care Theory (CY8001) and Child and Youth Care Research Methods (CY8002), which establish a strong theoretical and methodological base. They also take Advanced Therapeutic Practice in Child and Youth Care (CY8003), focusing on clinical skills, and Power and Resistance in Child and Youth Care (CY8013), which explores social justice and anti-oppressive perspectives relevant to working with youth. In the following semester, the curriculum emphasizes practical and organizational skills through courses like CYC Management and Policy Development (CY8004), preparing students for leadership roles. Critical Ethical Practice (CY8011) guides students through complex ethical issues in child and youth care. Therapeutic Practice Internship (CY8012) provides hands-on experience in real-world settings, allowing students to apply their learning in a supervised environment. Additionally, Online Relational Practice (CY8007) examines the use of digital platforms in supporting relational work with youth. During the final term, students complete the CYC Internship (CY8000), an extended placement that integrates all aspects of their training in professional practice. This immersive experience is vital for developing advanced competencies and reflective practice skills essential for leadership in the field.
