COURSE CURRICULUM

Nursing degree program, offered jointly by Toronto Metropolitan University, Centennial College, and George Brown College, prepares students to become competent and compassionate nursing professionals ready to shape the future of healthcare. Students at each campus follow the same curriculum, with those admitted to TMU completing all four years at the university, while students at Centennial or George Brown complete the first two years at their respective college before finishing the program at TMU. The curriculum is grounded in phenomenology and critical social theory, organized around five key themes: primary health care/health promotion, reflective practice/critical thinking, meaningful relationships/caring/communication, political/social justice, and personal/professional development. These are complemented by core nursing concepts such as safety, scholarship, relational practice, diversity, leadership, and determinants of health. Students take professional nursing courses, as well as required courses in anatomy, physiology, psychology, and microbiology, alongside liberal studies and open electives. Learning is seen as an interactive, lifelong process that emphasizes student-teacher collaboration and self-directed development. Each academic year focuses on progressively deeper knowledge and practice—from understanding the self and building foundational skills in Year I, to patient-centered care and research literacy in Year II, community and population health in Year III, and leadership and system integration in Year IV. Clinical placements begin in the first year and span diverse healthcare settings across the Greater Toronto Area. Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX exam to become registered nurses and pursue entry-level positions in hospitals, community health, and other care environments.
