COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry at Toronto Metropolitan University begins with a shared first-year foundation common to the Chemistry, Biology, and Medical Physics programs, allowing students to explore different science pathways before choosing Chemistry. The first year includes foundational science courses, an introduction to using computers as scientific tools, and SCI 180, an orientation course designed to help students transition smoothly into university and plan their academic path. In the upper years, the program emphasizes practical, applications-oriented learning, with a significant portion of time spent in fully equipped laboratories to develop hands-on skills alongside a strong theoretical understanding of chemical science. Students can choose to pursue a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, Chemistry with a Biology Minor, or Chemistry with an Option in Applied Physics, tailoring their studies to their interests. The curriculum focuses on advancing technological expertise and exploring research and industrial applications of chemistry. In their final year, students may apply to undertake an independent, faculty-supervised thesis project, providing an opportunity to conduct original research. This structure prepares graduates for careers in scientific research, industry, environmental protection, and healthcare, or for further study in graduate or professional programs.
