COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology at Toronto Metropolitan University begins with a shared first-year foundation that is common to the Biology, Chemistry, and Medical Physics programs. This structure allows students to explore different scientific pathways before committing to a specific major. The first year includes core science courses, an introduction to using computers as scientific tools, and SCI 180, an orientation course designed to help students transition into university life and plan their academic journey. In the upper years, students concentrate on developing specialized skills in biological science and its real-world applications. The curriculum includes opportunities to pursue a Minor and one of three optional concentrations: Biophysics, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, or Environmental Biology. Students gain hands-on experience through laboratory work, industry-focused research, and a faculty-supervised thesis project in their final year, allowing them to apply their learning to a focused area of interest. Additionally, students can enhance their degree with the Optional Specialization in Management Sciences, which provides interdisciplinary training in four key areas: Strategic Engineering Management, Operations Management/Operations Research, Finance, and Organizational Behaviour. This added focus helps bridge science and business, preparing graduates for diverse careers in research, healthcare, biotechnology, and industry, or for advanced studies in scientific or managerial fields.
