COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering program at TMU offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in engineering principles and specialized knowledge in key areas such as environmental, transportation, and structural engineering. In the first year, students across various engineering disciplines complete core courses including Introduction to Engineering, General Chemistry, Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Physics, alongside a liberal studies course. The second semester introduces programming, engineering economics, graphics, materials science, and physics of waves and fields. In the third and fourth semesters, students build on these fundamentals with courses in strength of materials, surveying, probability and statistics, fluid mechanics, transportation engineering, geology, soil mechanics, hydraulics, and communication skills. The fifth and sixth semesters focus on more specialized subjects such as geomatics, hydrology, structural design, concrete materials, numerical analysis, remote sensing, municipal engineering, civil systems, highway design, and project management, with options to join the co-operative program or internship. In the final year, students choose a stream—Environmental or Transportation—and complete a capstone design project that spans two semesters, tackling real-world engineering challenges. They also study satellite geodesy, environmental science, geospatial information systems, law and ethics, and advanced courses relevant to their stream such as water resources engineering, wastewater treatment, traffic operations, transportation planning, solid waste management, and pavement design. Throughout the program, liberal studies courses are integrated to provide a well-rounded education, preparing graduates to design, construct, and manage critical infrastructure systems that support communities and industries effectively.
