COURSE CURRICULUM

Tourism Destination Development at Thompson Rivers University is a 48-credit program designed for students who already hold an undergraduate degree and want to specialize in tourism management and destination development. The curriculum is structured into core courses, upper-level electives, and a capstone project. Core courses (27 credits) include Professional and Academic Composition, Technical Communication, Tourism Management Fundamentals, Tourism and Services Marketing, Community and Cultural Issues in Tourism, Tourism Policy and Planning, and Tourism Research. Students also take either Statistics or Geographical Analysis to build analytical skills. A practicum or co-op work term provides hands-on industry experience in a real tourism setting. The program also includes upper-level specialty courses (18 credits), where students choose from advanced tourism-related subjects in areas such as adventure tourism, event management, hospitality, and tourism management. These electives allow students to tailor their learning based on career interests. The program concludes with a 3-credit capstone course in which students integrate their knowledge through a final project focused on tourism management and destination development.
