COURSE CURRICULUM

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Human Resource Management at Thompson Rivers University is a 20-course program designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to specialize in managing people and workplace systems. The program begins with foundational business courses such as Introduction to Business, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, and Management Information Systems, which help students understand how organizations operate and make decisions. It then builds into core human resource and organizational studies including Organizational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, Leadership, Organizational Theory and Design, and Business Ethics and Society. These courses focus on understanding employee behaviour, workplace structure, leadership styles, and ethical decision-making in organizations. Students also study legal and regulatory aspects of employment through Commercial Law, Employment Law, and Labour Relations, which are essential for managing workplace compliance and employee relations. Additional advanced courses include Human Resource Planning and Staffing, Total Rewards, Training and Development, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, and Organizational Change, which prepare students to manage recruitment, compensation, employee development, and workplace transformation. The final course, Human Resource Strategy and Professional Practice, integrates all learning into a strategic HR perspective. Overall, the program develops strong analytical, communication, leadership, and decision-making skills, preparing graduates for careers in human resources, recruitment, labour relations, training and development, and management roles in diverse organizations.
