COURSE CURRICULUM

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Economics at Thompson Rivers University is a 16-course program designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to gain advanced knowledge in economics. The program begins with foundational courses such as mathematics for business and economics, calculus for economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and economic statistics, which build strong quantitative and analytical skills. Students then progress to intermediate-level studies in microeconomics and macroeconomics, helping them understand deeper economic theories and models. A major part of the program is the selection of at least eight upper-level economics courses, allowing students to specialize in areas of interest such as international economics, public finance, labour economics, environmental economics, health economics, financial markets, and econometrics. Other options include courses in government and business, law and economics, natural resource economics, forecasting, and sustainable economic development. The curriculum also offers applied learning through topics like benefit-cost analysis, industrial organization, and directed studies, giving students practical exposure to real-world economic issues. Overall, the program is designed to strengthen analytical thinking, research abilities, and quantitative reasoning.
