COURSE CURRICULUM

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Economics and Political Studies at Thompson Rivers University is a 15-course program designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to gain a deeper understanding of how economic systems and political structures interact in Canada and globally. The program begins with core economics courses such as principles of microeconomics, macroeconomics, intermediate macroeconomics, and economics and business statistics, which help you build a strong foundation in economic theory, data analysis, and policy evaluation. You also complete introductory political studies courses that introduce you to political systems and ideas. The elective portion allows you to explore advanced economics topics such as international economics, public finance, labour economics, environmental economics, economic development, and government policy analysis, helping you understand how economic decisions affect societies. In political studies, you take courses in areas such as Canadian politics, comparative politics, international relations, political philosophy, public policy, and global political systems, giving you insight into how governments function and how political decisions are made. Overall, the program develops your analytical, research, and critical thinking skills by combining economics and political science. It prepares you for careers in government, policy analysis, international organizations, research institutions, and private sector roles where understanding both economics and politics is important.
