COURSE CURRICULUM

The graduate program at Thompson Rivers University is structured around a combination of required coursework, electives, and a major research component, allowing students to tailor their studies toward either a project or thesis pathway. Students must complete core courses such as Managerial Statistics, Quantitative Fundamentals for Economics and Management, Microeconomics for Sustainable Management, and Research Methods, which together build analytical, economic, and research skills. Depending on prior academic background, particularly in statistics, some students may receive course waivers. In addition to required courses, students select electives at the 5000–6000 level in economics or business, guided by their supervisor and program coordinator to align with research interests. The program offers two completion routes: the project route, where students undertake a supervised graduate project along with additional advanced courses, or the thesis route, which involves producing a full academic thesis under supervision after completing required coursework and electives. This flexible structure ensures both practical and research-focused learning, preparing students for professional roles or further academic study while emphasizing independent research, critical thinking, and subject specialization.
