COURSE CURRICULUM

Nurse Practitioner program at Thompson Rivers University is delivered through a blended learning model combining online theoretical coursework, on-campus condensed laboratory sessions for advanced clinical skill development, and supervised clinical practicums in real healthcare settings across British Columbia. The program structure builds on a foundation of five core Master of Nursing courses totaling 15 credits, followed by nine specialized nurse practitioner courses totaling 35 credits that focus on advanced clinical knowledge, diagnosis, and patient management. Students also complete two directed health study courses that develop research and inquiry skills in healthcare, along with a final consolidated nurse practitioner internship that provides intensive hands-on clinical experience. In total, the program consists of 50 credits and is designed to prepare students for full-scope nurse practitioner practice. Learners study topics such as Research in Healthcare, Indigenous Health Leadership, Issues in Professional Practice for Nurse Practitioners, and Nurse Practitioner Primary Healthcare. The flexible structure allows completion in either two years (six semesters) or three years (nine semesters), depending on student pacing. Overall, the program emphasizes integration of theory, clinical practice, leadership, and culturally safe care to prepare graduates for advanced practice roles in healthcare systems overall learning.
