COURSE CURRICULUM

The Tourism Management Diploma at Thompson Rivers University is a two-year, 60-credit program designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the tourism industry along with practical business and management skills. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in communication, mathematics, tourism fundamentals, leadership, accounting, and marketing through courses such as Professional and Academic Composition, Finite Math with Applications, Introduction to Tourism, Organizational Leadership in Tourism, Financial Accounting, Technical Communication, Human Resources Management, Tourism and Services Marketing, and People, Places and the Toured Landscape. A co-operative education work term in the summer provides real-world industry experience. In the second year, students advance into more specialized tourism and business studies, including Financial Operations Control in Tourism, Tourism and Hospitality Law, Introduction to Economics, Microeconomics or Macroeconomics, Economics for Tourism, Environmental Issues in Tourism, and Introduction to Statistics. Students also choose electives in areas such as destination marketing, sports event marketing, hotel sales and convention services, or other tourism-related subjects. This flexible structure allows students to explore different areas within tourism management while developing analytical, financial, and operational skills. Graduates are prepared for careers in tourism organizations, travel services, hospitality businesses, destination marketing, and related sectors in the global tourism industry.
