COURSE CURRICULUM

The Resort and Hotel Management Diploma at Thompson Rivers University is a two-year, 60-credit program designed to prepare students for supervisory and management roles in the global hospitality and tourism industry. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in communication, tourism, business, and hospitality operations through courses such as Professional and Academic Composition, Catering and Service Management, Introduction to Tourism, Organizational Leadership in Tourism, Financial Accounting, Technical Communication, Tourism and Services Marketing, Food and Beverage Preparation, and Hotel Operations. These courses develop essential skills in customer service, leadership, finance, and operational understanding. A co-operative education work term in the summer provides practical industry experience. In the second year, students advance into more specialized hospitality and management training. Courses include Food and Beverage Management, Hotel Operations 2, Human Resources Management, Financial Operations Control in Tourism, Tourism and Hospitality Law, Food and Beverage Cost Control, Hotel Sales and Convention Services, Field Experience, and Resort and Hotel Operations. This combination of academic learning and hands-on training ensures students gain both theoretical knowledge and real-world experience. Graduates are prepared for careers in hotel and resort management, food and beverage supervision, conference services, tourism operations, hospitality sales, and related leadership roles in the global hospitality industry.
