The Adventure Guide Diploma at the University of the Fraser Valley is an intensive, fast-paced two-year program designed for those seeking a professional career in outdoor leadership and adventure tourism. This 60-credit diploma combines rigorous academic instruction with hands-on field training, with approximately 60 percent of coursework taking place in real-world outdoor environments. Students participate in a wide range of activities including guided expeditions, field trips, and outdoor skills instruction across disciplines such as mountaineering, river and ocean kayaking, rock climbing, and backcountry travel.The diploma consists of 36 required credits and 24 elective credits, allowing students to tailor part of their studies to suit specific areas of interest. In addition to developing technical proficiency, students gain critical knowledge in areas such as leadership, group management, risk assessment, environmental responsibility, and the theory behind adventure education and tourism.
