COURSE CURRICULUM

The horticulture program is structured over two semesters and provides students with a balanced mix of classroom instruction and hands-on practical training to prepare for careers in the horticulture and landscaping industry. In the Fall Semester, students begin with Horticulture Communications English 1 to develop professional communication skills, followed by Basic Horticulture, which introduces foundational plant science concepts. Greenhouse Production focuses on growing plants in controlled environments, while Diseases and Insect Pests teaches identification and management of common plant health issues. Soil Science explores soil properties and their role in plant growth, and Horticulture Practical 1 provides hands-on experience applying these concepts in real settings. In the Winter Semester, students continue with Horticulture Communications English 2 to further strengthen communication skills. Courses such as Weeds, Nursery Production and Retailing, Fruit and Vegetable Production, Landscaping, and Turfgrass Management expand knowledge in plant care, cultivation, and landscape maintenance. Horticulture Practical 2 allows continued skill development through applied learning. The program concludes with a Horticulture Practicum, offering real-world industry experience in professional horticulture environments. Overall, the curriculum equips students with essential technical knowledge, practical skills, and workplace experience needed for entry-level roles in horticulture, landscaping, greenhouse operations, and related fields.
