COURSE CURRICULUM

The Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) / Machinist program follows a SkilledTradesBC-approved curriculum designed to prepare students for safe and effective work in industrial environments. A strong emphasis is placed on safe work practices throughout all training activities, ensuring students develop habits that meet industry safety standards. The program also builds essential mathematical skills required in the trade, including precision measuring and calculations used for machinery alignment and installation. Students learn about power transmission systems, including gears, belts, and chains, and gain hands-on experience in installing and maintaining these systems. Training in bearing science covers proper installation techniques and maintenance procedures to ensure smooth machine operation and reduce wear. The curriculum introduces fluid power basics, helping students understand hydraulic and pneumatic systems commonly used in industry. Rigging and hoisting methods are taught to safely lift and move heavy equipment. Students also develop basic welding skills to support repair and fabrication tasks. Additional instruction includes the principles and operation of pumps and compressors, which are essential components in many industrial systems. Finally, learners gain practical experience in machinery dismantling, repair, and assembly, equipping them with the comprehensive skills needed to work as competent industrial mechanics or machinists in various sectors.
