COURSE CURRICULUM

The Instrumentation and Control Technician program at TRU is designed to equip students with advanced technical skills required to work in modern industrial automation and control systems. Students learn how to program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), which are industrial computers used to automate processes, using programming methods such as Ladder Logic and Instruction List languages. The program also focuses on the development and construction of industrial control circuits, giving students a strong foundation in electrical and electronic systems used in automation. Hands-on training is a key component, where students gain practical experience in disassembling, repairing, and rebuilding essential components such as valves, regulators, actuators, and various instrumentation devices. They also learn how to calibrate instruments to ensure accurate measurement and control of industrial processes. A unique feature of the program is its state-of-the-art facilities within the Industrial Training and Technology Centre, which include specialized labs for electrical and electronics work, calibration and valve testing, programming, and process control. Students train on advanced Pignat process-control systems as well as real-world industrial setups such as a multi-fuel power plant with DeltaV DCS, a pilot water treatment facility with SCADA, and a wastewater treatment system, providing highly realistic industry experience.
