COURSE CURRICULUM

Adventure Studies, offered as a major within the Bachelor of Tourism Management degree, prepares students for careers in the growing adventure tourism sector by combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. The major requires 24 credits, including 21 credits from upper-level ADVG courses, while the minor requires 12 credits, including a mandatory course in Business Applications for Eco and Adventure Tourism Management. Students can choose from a wide range of courses such as Adventure Activities, Adventure Sport and Tourism, Risk Management, Experiential Programming, Tour Operations, and Adventure Marketing. Practical learning is emphasized through field schools, practicums, and project-based activities, including international and Canada-based field experiences. The program also allows transfer credits from related certificates, diplomas, and other post-secondary institutions, offering flexibility for students entering from different educational backgrounds. Lower-level requirements can be completed through general tourism courses or specialized adventure guide programs, although some paths may require additional coursework. Graduates develop strong skills applicable to roles such as tourism consultants, research assistants, product developers, entrepreneurs, and business managers in the adventure tourism industry.
