COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Major (Science stream) at TRU is a four-year program that builds strong theoretical and applied mathematical skills through a structured combination of core mathematics, computing, science, and elective courses. In the first year, students complete foundational courses such as Calculus I and II (MATH 1130/1140 and 1230/1240), Discrete Mathematics I (MATH 1700), Computer Programming I (COMP 1130), English composition (ENGL 1100/1110), and introductory electives. The second year focuses on deeper mathematical theory including Discrete Mathematics II (MATH 2700), Calculus III (MATH 2110), Linear Algebra I (MATH 2120), Introduction to Analysis (MATH 2200), and supporting STAT and elective courses. In the third and fourth years, students take advanced upper-level mathematics courses, selecting from topics such as real analysis, abstract algebra, linear algebra II, differential equations, complex variables, numerical analysis, and mathematical modelling (MATH 3000–4000 level courses). They also complete additional electives in mathematics, statistics, computing science, or related science disciplines to broaden their academic foundation. The program encourages flexibility, allowing students to align coursework with interests in fields like physics, economics, computing, or data science. Across all years, students develop skills in logical reasoning, proof writing, problem-solving, and quantitative analysis. The curriculum prepares graduates for careers in data science, finance, research, technology, education, and graduate studies where advanced mathematical thinking is required.
