COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Economics and Mathematics Major at TRU is a structured interdisciplinary program that combines core economics, mathematics, and statistics to build strong analytical and quantitative skills. In the lower-level years (about 36 credits), students complete foundational courses such as Calculus I and II (MATH 1140, 1240), Discrete Mathematics I and II (MATH 1700, 2700), Linear Algebra (MATH 2120), Calculus III (MATH 2110), Differential Equations (MATH 2240), Probability and Statistics (STAT 2000), along with Principles of Microeconomics (ECON 1900) and Macroeconomics (ECON 1950). Supporting courses include Economic and Business Statistics, English composition, and introductory computing or electives. In upper-level study, students take advanced economics and mathematical courses such as Intermediate Microeconomics I & II (ECON 2900, 3900), Intermediate Macroeconomics I & II (ECON 2950, 3950), Mathematical Economics (ECON 3200), Econometrics (ECON 4320), and Forecasting in Business and Economics (ECON 4330). Depending on the chosen stream, students also complete advanced mathematics or statistics courses such as regression analysis, linear programming, probability theory, and differential equations extensions. Additional upper-level electives allow specialization in either mathematics or statistics, along with further ECON/STAT/MATH courses. The program typically includes 66+ credits across economics, mathematics, and statistics at upper levels, with at least some 4000-level coursework. Overall, the curriculum integrates theory, modelling, and data analysis to prepare students for research, finance, policy, or graduate studies.
