COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Environmental Biology at TRU provides students with a structured progression from core biological sciences into advanced ecological and conservation studies. In the first year, students complete foundational courses such as Principles of Biology I and II (BIOL 1110, BIOL 1210), introduction to university writing (ENGL 1100), and core natural resource courses like The Science and Management of Natural Resources (NRSC 1110), Dendrology I and II (NRSC 1120, NRSC 1220), Soils (NRSC 2000), Forest Ecology and Silvics (NRSC 2100), and Climate Change Science (NRSC 1500). In the second year, students expand into chemistry (CHEM 1500), ecology and forest science courses such as Forest Ecology and Silvics II (NRSC 2200), Biometrics (BIOL 3000), Forest Mensuration (NRSC 2110), Ichthyology (NRSC 3170), and Geographic Information Systems (GEOG 2750), along with economics or social science electives. The third year focuses on advanced ecological applications including Silviculture (NRSC 3200), Limnology (NRSC 3260), Entomology and Pathology (NRSC 4020, NRSC 4030), Watershed Management (NRSC 4110), Population Biology (BIOL 3030), Fire Ecology (NRSC 4130), and Ecosystem Reclamation (NRSC 4300), plus environmental economics options. In the fourth year, students complete specialized courses such as Range Management, Wildlife Management, Fisheries Management, Natural Resource Policy, and a graduating essay (NRSC 4230), along with electives. The program strongly emphasizes fieldwork, labs, and applied ecological training.
