COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science at TRU is a four-year program that combines computing science, mathematics, and statistics to prepare students for careers in data-driven fields. In the first two years, students build foundational knowledge through core courses such as computer programming, data structures and algorithm analysis, discrete mathematics, calculus, linear algebra, and introductory statistics. They also study computer systems, database systems, and communication courses like academic writing and technical communication. Supporting science courses such as biology, chemistry, or physics are included to broaden scientific understanding. In the third and fourth years, students progress to advanced topics in computing and data science including artificial intelligence, machine learning concepts, software engineering, operating systems, computer networks, cybersecurity, and human-computer interaction. Advanced mathematics and statistics courses such as probability, statistical inference, numerical analysis, and linear algebra are also part of the curriculum to strengthen analytical skills. Students gain hands-on experience through labs, programming assignments, and applied projects using real-world datasets. A capstone computing project in the final year allows students to integrate their knowledge and solve complex data science problems. Elective courses in computing, mathematics, and statistics provide additional specialization options. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills for careers in data science, artificial intelligence, analytics, and related fields.
