COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computing Science Major at TRU is a four-year program divided into two years of general science foundation followed by two years of focused computing studies. In the first two years, students complete core courses such as Computer Programming I and II (COMP 1130, COMP 1230), Introduction to Computer Systems (COMP 2130), Data Structures and Algorithm Design (COMP 2230), Programming Methods (COMP 2210), Software Architecture and Design (COMP 2920), along with Mathematics for Computing Science and Discrete Mathematics (MATH 1650, MATH 1700). Students also take communication courses like ENGL 1100 and CMNS 1290, plus non-computing and general electives to build academic breadth. The upper years (3 and 4) focus on advanced computing topics including Computer Networks (COMP 3270), Network Security (COMP 3260), Operating Systems (COMP 3410), Database Systems (COMP 3610), Software Engineering (COMP 3520), Artificial Intelligence (COMP 3710), Human-Computer Interaction (COMP 3450), and Advanced Web Development (COMP 3540). In the final year, students complete a capstone project (COMP 4910) where they design and implement a real-world software solution, often with industry collaboration. Additional upper-level electives in computing allow specialization in areas such as AI, cybersecurity, and systems design. Overall, the program builds strong programming, problem-solving, and analytical skills for careers in technology or graduate study.
