COURSE CURRICULUM

Computing Science and Mathematics Combined Major at TRU is a structured four-year program that integrates core computing, mathematics, and supporting science courses to build strong analytical and technical expertise. In the first and second years, students complete foundational computing courses such as Computer Programming I and II, Data Structures and Algorithm Design, Introduction to Computer Systems, Web Design, and Software Architecture. They also study Discrete Mathematics, Calculus I–III, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations, along with a science sequence chosen from biology, geology, or chemistry, plus English and communication courses to develop writing and critical thinking skills. Additional requirements include physics and statistics, ensuring a strong scientific foundation. In the third and fourth years, students advance into specialized computing topics including Computer Networks, Network Security, Operating Systems, Database Systems, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Human-Computer Interaction. A Computing Science project or capstone experience is also completed. Alongside computing, students take upper-level mathematics courses such as Complex Variables, Abstract Algebra, Numerical Analysis, Linear Programming, and additional electives in mathematics or statistics. The program also includes non-science electives for breadth. Overall, this curriculum develops strong programming, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills, preparing graduates for careers in software development, data science, analytics, and research or further graduate studies.
