COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Natural Resource Science at TRU is a structured four-year program that combines classroom learning, laboratory work, and extensive field training to prepare students for careers in environmental and resource management. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through courses in biology, natural resource science, dendrology, soils, ecology, climate change science, and academic writing. The second year expands into chemistry, mathematics or calculus, Indigenous studies, economics, forest ecology, biometrics, forest mensuration, ichthyology, and geographic information systems, strengthening both scientific and analytical skills. In the third year, students move into more specialized and applied subjects such as silviculture, limnology, entomology, pathology, watershed management, environmental economics, population biology, grassland ecology, fire ecology, and ecosystem reclamation. The final year focuses on advanced management and applied practice, including wildlife management and conservation, fisheries management, natural resource policy and planning, range management, conflict resolution, and a graduating essay project that integrates research and field experience. Across all years, field-based labs are a key part of learning, allowing students to apply theory in real-world settings such as forests, rivers, and ecosystems. By graduation, students are well prepared for careers in forestry, conservation, environmental consulting, wildlife management, and sustainable resource planning.
