COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Economics is structured to build strong foundations in both quantitative mathematics and economic theory, followed by advanced specialization. The lower-level requirements consist of 36 credits covering essential subjects such as calculus (MATH 1140, 1240, 2110), discrete mathematics, linear algebra, differential equations, probability and statistics, and core economics courses including microeconomics, macroeconomics, and intermediate economic theory. Students also take Economic and Business Statistics to develop analytical skills for real-world data interpretation. In the third and fourth years, students complete 15 credits of advanced ECON or BUEC courses, including mathematical economics, advanced micro and macroeconomics, econometrics, and forecasting in business and economics. After this, students choose one of three streams based on their interests: mathematics, statistics, or general. The mathematics stream focuses on applied regression, differential equations, optimization, and mathematical modeling, along with an upper-level math elective. The statistics stream emphasizes probability, regression, stochastic processes, and statistical electives. The general stream offers flexibility, combining courses from both mathematics and statistics, including inference, linear programming, and analysis of variance. This structured yet flexible program ensures students develop strong analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills for careers in economics, data analysis, finance, research, and related fields.
