COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in English requires students to complete a total of 45 English credits as part of their major, with a structured progression from lower-level foundational courses to advanced upper-level study. At the lower level, students must complete 15 credits, including 6 credits from 1000-level courses such as Introduction to University Writing, Critical Reading and Writing, Introduction to Poetry, Introduction to Drama, or Introduction to Drama and Poetry. In addition, students complete 9 credits of 2000-level English courses, with required study including ENGL 2110 Literary Landmarks in English to 1700. Students are strongly encouraged to take ENGL 2120, and only 3 credits from selected 2000-level options such as ENGL 2010, 2020, 2060, 2070, or 2080 can be counted toward requirements. At the upper level, students complete a minimum of 30 credits at the 3000 and 4000 levels, allowing for deeper specialization in literature, writing, and critical analysis. This stage includes advanced coursework that builds analytical, interpretive, and communication skills, culminating in the capstone course ENGL 4760, which integrates learning from across the program. Overall, the structure ensures students develop strong reading, writing, and critical thinking abilities for diverse academic and professional careers.
