COURSE CURRICULUM

The Early Childhood Educator program at Suncrest College is structured over two years, combining theoretical coursework with practical experience to prepare students for professional roles in early learning settings. In the first year, students explore foundational concepts such as the Dynamics of Play 1 (ECE106), Health, Safety, and Nutrition (ECE142), and Observation and Documentation 1 (ECE181), alongside Growth and Development of Young Children (HUMD102) and Child Guidance 1 (HUMD183). They also engage in their first practicum (PRAC104) to apply classroom learning in real-world environments. Additional courses focus on family and community relationships (ECE107), curriculum design (ECE108, ECE109), language and literacy development (ECE120), and professionalism in early learning settings (PD100), culminating in a second practicum (PRAC119). In the second year, students deepen their knowledge with courses such as Responsive Care for Infants and Toddlers (ECE202), Inclusion in Early Learning Settings (ECE203), and advanced curriculum design (ECE205). They explore outdoor and nature play (ECE206), observation and documentation 2 (ECE221), dynamics of play 2 (ECE204), anti-bias education (ECE220), and responsive care for school-age children (ECE226), along with child guidance 2 (HUMD200) and professionalism 2 (PD240). Two additional practicums (PRAC217 and PRAC218) provide hands-on experience, enabling students to integrate theory with practice and develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to support children’s holistic growth in diverse early childhood education environments.
