COURSE CURRICULUM

The Continuing Care Assistant program at Suncrest College is structured over two semesters, providing a comprehensive foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for healthcare support roles. In the first semester, students begin with courses such as Body Systems (ANAT 100) to understand human anatomy, Introduction to Caregiving (SPCR 106), Personal Care 1 and 2 (SPCR 104 and SPCR 105) to develop hands-on caregiving skills, Dementia Care (DEMC 100), Observing, Reporting, and Recording (SPCR 101), and Helping Skills (COMM 197) to enhance interpersonal abilities and client support. Students also engage in Clinical 1 – Special Care (CLIN 100) to apply their learning in real-world settings under supervision. The second semester builds on this foundation with Clinical 2 – Special Care (CLIN 219), End of Life Care (SPCR 102), Community Care (SPCR 107), and Special Procedures (SPCR 108), alongside specialized courses in Special Needs 1 and 2 (SPCR 284 and SPCR 285) to address diverse client requirements. Human Growth and Development (HUMD 187) and Foundations of Sociology (SOCI 160) provide a broader understanding of client backgrounds and societal contexts, while Interpersonal Communications (COMM 291) and Personal Competence (SPCR 192) strengthen professional skills. This curriculum combines classroom instruction with practical experience, ensuring students graduate with the knowledge, hands-on skills, and confidence needed to provide compassionate, competent care in long-term care, special care, and community healthcare environments.
