COURSE CURRICULUM

The Agricultural Equipment Technicians program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in the maintenance, repair, and operation of modern agricultural machinery through a carefully sequenced curriculum. The program begins with essential theory and practical skills in air conditioning and heating through AIR 183, and basic electrical principles with ELEC 296, progressing to more advanced electrical topics including starting and charging components, and system diagnostics through ELEC 298, 299. Engine fundamentals and hands-on engine work are covered in ENGN 128, 129, 191, and 192, where students learn engine overhaul, assembly, fuel systems, and operational assessment. Equipment-specific courses such as EQPT 194, 196, 197, 198, and 199 provide detailed instruction on seeding and tillage equipment, harvesting machinery, hay and forage equipment, sprayers and applicators, and pre-delivery performance checks. Precision farming operations are introduced in FMMT 100, alongside hydraulic systems education in HYDR 124 and 125, covering pumps, valves, and flow controls. Essential workplace skills are addressed in JOBS 125, while trade-specific mathematics is taught in MATH 169. Practical shop skills, hand tools, and safety protocols are emphasized in SHOP 124 and 125. Driveline systems, including belts, chains, clutch drives, differentials, and final drives, are covered in TRNM 190, 191, and 192, complemented by welding training through WLDR 158 and 159 in oxy-fuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, and shielded metal arc welding. The program concludes with WORK 191, providing dealership work experience, enabling students to apply their acquired technical knowledge in real-world settings. This integrated curriculum ensures graduates are thoroughly prepared for careers as skilled agricultural equipment technicians, capable of troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing complex machinery in a rapidly evolving industry.
