COURSE CURRICULUM

History at St. Thomas University requires students to complete a minimum of 36 credit hours in history, providing a structured and progressive understanding of historical study. Students begin by completing six credit hours of introductory-level courses, chosen from a variety of thematic subjects such as Precolonial Africa, Food in World History, Modern Africa, the History of Magic and Demons, Cars in World History, Citizenship in World History, Sport in World History, or Screening History. Students may take a maximum of nine credit hours at the 1000 level to ensure balanced progression. In addition, all history majors must complete core courses including World History to 1400, World History Since 1400, and Exploring History, which provide foundational knowledge and essential research skills. The program also requires at least nine credit hours of advanced-level courses at the 3000 level or higher, allowing students to engage in more specialized historical study. The remaining 12 credit hours can be selected from a wide range of history electives, giving students flexibility to tailor their degree according to their interests. This structure ensures a strong combination of foundational learning, thematic exploration, and advanced historical analysis. Overall, the program develops critical thinking, research, and analytical skills, preparing students for careers in education, research, public history, and related fields.
