COURSE CURRICULUM

French at St. Thomas University, students are required to declare their subject major by the beginning of their second year and complete at least 36 credit hours of French courses. These courses are selected from two main areas of study: Module 1, which focuses on Langue française (French language development), and Module 2, which explores Civilisation du monde francophone (Francophone world culture and society). This structure ensures that students gain both strong language proficiency and a deep understanding of French-speaking cultures. Within the 36 credit hours required for the major, at least 12 credit hours must come from Module 2 courses at the 3000 level, including options such as advanced studies in French language, literature, culture, and Francophone societies. Additionally, students must complete at least 3 credit hours at the 4000 level, allowing for more specialized and advanced academic study. This progression ensures that students move from foundational language learning to higher-level critical analysis and cultural understanding. The program is designed to strengthen reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills in French while also developing global awareness of Francophone communities.
