COURSE CURRICULUM

The Catholic Studies at St. Thomas University requires students to complete 36 credit hours that provide a structured and interdisciplinary exploration of the Catholic intellectual tradition. The program includes core courses such as The Roots of Catholic Diversity, Global Catholicism, and a Catholic Studies Seminar, which introduce students to historical development, global perspectives, and critical academic engagement within the field. In addition to these core courses, students must complete at least three credit hours from each of four thematic groups to ensure a well-rounded understanding. Group one focuses on history and literature, offering courses on the early Church, Catholic literature, and classical works such as Dante’s Divine Comedy. Group two covers Catholic theology, including studies of the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, fundamental theological issues, and the role of women in Christianity. Group three emphasizes faith and reason, with philosophy courses exploring thinkers such as Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, as well as broader questions about God and philosophical traditions. Group four connects faith with society, addressing ethics, law, political philosophy, and social responsibility. This structure allows students to explore religion from historical, philosophical, literary, and ethical perspectives, developing critical thinking and interdisciplinary knowledge applicable to various academic and professional paths.
