COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Care Administration – International Stream graduate certificate program spans four semesters and provides international health care professionals with the business and leadership skills necessary to transition into administrative roles in Canada’s health care system. In Semester 1, students are introduced to the Canadian health care landscape, including its structure, policies, and professional standards, while developing foundational skills in communication, computer applications, human relations, and government systems relevant to health care settings. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with a focus on operational communication, ethics, legal considerations, and leadership in health care administration. Students also develop financial literacy and technology skills essential for supporting strategic decision-making and managing confidential information within organizations. In Semester 3, the emphasis shifts to applied management, with courses in health care policy, problem solving, operations, quality and risk management, and human resources. Students learn to analyze data, implement quality improvement processes, and lead teams effectively within the unique environment of health care institutions. Finally, Semester 4 centers on innovation and change management, preparing students to guide organizations through transitions and foster continuous improvement. A restricted elective complements the curriculum, allowing students to tailor their learning based on interests or career goals. By the program’s end, graduates are equipped with the knowledge, cultural understanding, and business acumen required to take on entry- to mid-level management roles in clinics, hospitals, and other health care facilities across Canada.
