COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technology program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the field. In the first semester, students are introduced to soil and groundwater concepts, physics fundamentals, technical drafting using AutoCAD, workplace safety, technical mathematics, computer applications in Excel, and communication skills. The second semester builds on physics with applied concepts, surveying methods, environmental management, building principles, advanced AutoCAD techniques, practical surveying, intermediate math including calculus, and a general education course. Semester three covers fluid mechanics, water quality and treatment, enhanced AutoCAD skills, mechanics of structures, advanced surveying with total stations, calculus applications, and an online general education course. In the fourth semester, students study mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics labs, concrete and aggregate testing, hydrology for urban design, strength of materials lab, civil 3D for land development, GIS for municipal planning, and a general education course. The fifth semester focuses on technical report writing, soil mechanics, steel structures design, highway technology, asset management, reinforced concrete and masonry, water and wastewater technology, and a general education course. The final semester emphasizes asphalt properties and design, wood design for structures, soil mechanics lab, highway technology lab, a four-week work placement to gain industry experience, water and wastewater modeling lab, project scheduling and estimating, and construction management covering contracts, budgeting, and sustainability. This extensive program combines theoretical learning, practical labs, software skills, and real-world experience, preparing graduates to effectively contribute to the design, construction, and maintenance of critical infrastructure in municipal, environmental, and structural engineering fields.
