COURSE CURRICULUM

The Behavioural Science program offers a comprehensive and specialized education in applied behaviour analysis, preparing students to work with individuals who present complex behavioural, cognitive, and emotional challenges. Spanning six semesters, the program integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience through four field placements. In the first year, students build foundational skills in behaviourism, introductory psychology, mental health disorders, professional effectiveness, and communication. Semester two deepens understanding with courses in ethics, applied behaviour analysis, research methods, and further exploration of child and adolescent mental health. In the second year, students begin field placement and focus on behavioural assessment, measurement, statistics, and non-violent crisis intervention. Semesters four and five concentrate on advanced intervention strategies including acquisition and reduction techniques, working with families, forensic behavioural interventions, cognitive behavioural approaches, and group facilitation. Students also study adult mental health and substance-related disorders while continuing hands-on learning through supervised placements. The final semester includes advanced topics such as behavioural medicine, pharmacology, brain injury rehabilitation, third-wave behavioural techniques like acceptance and commitment training, and selected emerging topics in behaviour analysis. Throughout the program, students develop the ability to assess, design, and implement behaviour intervention plans across a wide range of client populations. Graduates are equipped with the skills required to work in diverse clinical, community, and educational settings.
