COURSE CURRICULUM

The Welding Technology program provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for success in the welding industry. In the first semester, students develop foundational skills in computer applications, trade practices, drawing interpretation, welding theory, materials quality, and practical welding techniques including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and thermal cutting, alongside essential math skills tailored for trades technicians. Semester two builds on these fundamentals with courses in skilled trades communication, blueprint reading and fitting, advanced welding theory, and further practical application of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and introduction to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), as well as technical math to solve welding-specific problems. The third semester focuses on fitting, quality control, and advanced welding practical skills, including groove welds on plate and pipe, automatic and semi-automatic welding processes, plasma arc welding, and computer-aided design (CAD). Students also explore ethics and critical thinking, preparing them for decision-making in professional environments. The final semester introduces automated welding with a focus on CNC fundamentals, advanced welding processes for specialty alloys, layout and fabrication, and advanced practical courses in SMAW and GTAW. The program culminates with a capstone project where students apply their skills in advanced automatic and semi-automatic welding processes, simulating real workplace challenges. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience and develop a strong understanding of safety practices, industry standards, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, preparing them for diverse roles within the evolving field of welding technology.
