COURSE CURRICULUM

The Police Foundations Program offers a comprehensive and progressive curriculum designed to prepare students for successful careers in law enforcement and public safety. The program begins in Semester 1 with foundational courses such as Communications for College, Canadian Criminal Justice System, Human Development and Enculturation, and Principles of Ethical Reasoning, alongside Workplace Readiness and Fitness and Lifestyle Management 1. These courses introduce students to essential communication skills, ethical practices, and physical preparedness required in policing. In Semester 2, students build on their skills with focused courses like Communications for Law Enforcement, Criminology, Criminal and Civil Law, Diverse and Vulnerable Populations, and Interpersonal and Group Dynamics, as well as continued physical fitness development. Semester 3 explores deeper areas including Systems Perspectives, Police Powers 1, Community Mobilization and Engagement, Interviewing and Investigating, and Conflict Management, complemented by advanced fitness training and an introduction to mental health issues in law enforcement. In Semester 4, students prepare for transition into employment through the Career Preparation course, while studying specialized topics like Youth in Conflict with the Law, Provincial Offenses, Police Powers 2, Investigation and Court Proceedings, and Fitness and Lifestyle Management 4. The program emphasizes legal knowledge, ethical behavior, communication, mental and physical health, and crisis intervention skills. Throughout the four semesters, students are exposed to current policing practices, legislation, community relations, and critical thinking strategies. Each course is designed to ensure that graduates are well-rounded, physically fit, ethically grounded, and professionally prepared to face the challenges of modern law enforcement. With a blend of academic learning, practical skill development, and personal growth, the Police Foundations Program equips students with the tools needed to meet employer expectations and succeed in a range of law enforcement roles including municipal policing, corrections, bylaw enforcement, border services, and other public safety careers.
