COURSE CURRICULUM

The Paramedic program's curriculum offers a comprehensive and immersive approach to preparing students for the challenges of pre-hospital emergency care. In Semester 1, students begin developing foundational knowledge in anatomy and physiology, patient care theory, and medical and traumatic emergency response. Courses such as Patient Care Practicum and Physical Fitness focus on applying safe lifting techniques and core skills needed in paramedic practice. Communications for College supports the development of strong written and verbal skills. Semester 2 builds on this base with continued focus on patient care theory, pharmacology, medical legal issues, and hands-on training through practicum and hospital placements. Physical Fitness 2 addresses paramedic wellness, including the effects of shift work and nutrition. Students also develop critical communication strategies in the Communications for Paramedics course. In Semester 3, students engage in more advanced clinical training through courses like Advanced Skills Theory, Advanced Practicum, and Ambulance Operations. Hospital and ambulance field placements offer valuable real-world experience. Courses in mental health and professional issues strengthen students’ abilities to manage complex scenarios and ethical challenges. Semester 4 culminates in a full-time consolidation placement under the preceptor model, where students apply critical thinking, psychomotor skills, and decision-making in real emergency settings, progressing toward independence in preparation for entry into the workforce as Primary Care Paramedics.
