COURSE CURRICULUM
The Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technician program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with essential technical skills for modern industrial environments. In the first semester, students build a strong foundation with courses in Technical Communications, Technical Mathematics, and Electrical Fundamentals, gaining knowledge of electrical theory, installation methods, renewable energy technologies, data literacy, and workplace safety. Emphasis is placed on hands-on learning with electrical circuits, technical drawing using the Canadian Electrical Code, and an introduction to renewable energy systems such as solar and wind power. The second semester advances these skills with deeper electrical theory, AutoCAD training for precise technical drawings, and study of electromechanical systems. Instrumentation courses focus on sensors and measurement devices, including pressure and temperature instruments, while electronics and workplace practices prepare students for real-world applications. Additional courses explore fire alarm systems and wind turbine technologies, broadening students’ understanding of safety and renewable energy sectors. In the third semester, students delve into industrial measurement and control through courses on level and flow measurement, pneumatic systems, advanced technical mathematics, digital systems, microcontrollers, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). This semester emphasizes practical programming skills and troubleshooting in automation. The fourth and final semester covers practical process control, advanced PLC programming, power distribution, and motors, along with technical writing to develop communication skills. Students also study integrated process systems, computer interfacing, industrial networking, and cybersecurity, preparing them for increasingly connected and automated industrial environments. Throughout the program, general education courses complement the technical training by enhancing communication and professional skills. By combining theory with extensive hands-on experience using industry-standard tools and software, this program prepares graduates to enter diverse fields such as manufacturing, energy, municipal utilities, and environmental systems with the expertise to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize complex instrumentation and control systems in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
